Offshore Wind Power Technology Development and Testing of a Downscaled Pitch Controlled Wind Turbine
2015
Masteroppgave fornybar energi- Universitetet i Agder, 2015 The energy demand of the world increases day by day, and at the same time people become more aware of the impact fossil energy sources have on the climate. This leads to an increased focus on renewable energy sources, such as wind power, which has been pointed out as an important contributor to the production of renewable energy. In recent years the focus has shifted from land based wind farms towards the possibilities of the large energy potential that exist in the open ocean along the coast line. The background of the thesis is motivated by the increased focus on offshore wind power technology. State of the art technology in the f…
System Identification of a Variable Piston Pump and Design of a Hydraulic Load Circuit
2015
Masteroppgave i mekatronikk - Universitetet i Agder, 2015 This master thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part focuses on the identification and modeling of a Bosch Rexroth variable piston pump in both frequency and time domain. The second part presents a hydraulic load circuit which is mounted inside a test container. The load circuit is used to test the pump in a suitable load situation which represents a small scale Active Heave Compensation (AHC) scenario. The considered pump is named A4VSG, and the internal swash plate angle is controlled with a hydraulically driven control system delivered by Bosch Rexroth. Several frequency response tests have been carried out to identif…

Masteroppgave i mekatronikk - Universitetet i Agder, 2015 In the o shore industry there is a need to compensate motions caused by waves and wind. It is important if loading is to be transferred from one vessel to another in a safe and e cient manner. To make this happend, the relative movement between the two vessels must be measured. A common way for doing this is to use a MRU (Motion Reference unit). This measures the orientation of boat related to world coordinates. This assignement is based on a scenario where two vessels are in motion related to the world coordinate system asynchronously relative to each other. A MRU on one of the vessels will not be able to measure this movement on it…
Modelling and Simulation of a Novel Liquamatic Fire Monitor A fully automated fire recognition- and suppression system based on infrared machine visi…
2015
Masteroppgave i mekatronikk - Universitetet i Agder, 2015 Background: Fire monitors are effective fire extinguishing apparatuses which combine high accuracy with long range. As part of the mechatronic trend, research has during recent years started to delve into the automation of re monitors. This involves proper actuation and control of re monitors in order to extinguish re. Up to this point, however, research has primarily been concerned with indoor operation. The aim of the present thesis is to develop a system for an electrically actuated re monitor which detects, localizes and suppresses re in an outdoor environment without the need for manual operation. Solution & Experiments: Fire is…
Redesign of Utility Robot for Carbothermic Test Reactor
2015
Masteroppgave i mekatronikk - Universitetet i Agder, 2015 Production of aluminum based on a carbothermic reaction is an exciting field of research. It could potentially reduce the energy consumption of aluminum production drastically. Alcoa Norway Carbothermic has been involved in the field of carbothermic aluminum research since 1998. As a part of development of their newest carbothermic test reactor, the Hot Bowl reactor, Alcoa Norway Carbothermic has proposed a thesis regarding redesign of a machine used to lower different types of measuring equipment down into the reactor, called the utility robot. This thesis describe the process leading up to a new utility robot solution. The new util…
